The National boxing team (Bombers) elimination trials have been moved forward to this Sunday from next week.
The Bombers have been camped at Luzira prisons since last month in preparation for All Africa Games this month in Rabat, Morocco.
Bombers team manager Zebra Ssenyange confirmed that the trials will be held at the Kira road police play grounds in Kamwokya, a Kampala suburb.
The same grounds are hosting the 2019 national novice championship which got underway on Thursday going till early the coming week.
He said that the change in dates from was due to an urgent call to hand in the final Bombers team list from the 25 boxers in camp to Uganda Olympic Committee (UOC) which is in charge of organizing team Uganda for the games.
“We were given a deadline of Monday, August 5 to hand in the final list and thus we had to hold the trials urgently. In boxing, you can only select the final team after competition and in this regard the trials. We expect great competition from the boxers since they have trained for some good time,” noted Ssenyange.
The national Novices championship will thus be halted for this Sunday before it resumes on Monday at the same venue. The referees and judges partaking in the AIBA course are having their practical exams at the championship.
