Rays of Grace have been dumped out of this year’s Airtel Rising Stars (ARS) after a 5-4 loss at Timuna in penalties after a one-all draw at the Buganda region qualifiers quarter final match played at Bukalasa vocation institute in Luwero on Saturday.

The Buikwe-based Rays of Grace beat Mpigi mixed 3-0 in the final last year to win the title courtesy of Julius Kintu hat trick while Nyendo-based Devine soccer academy beat Pride College from Mpigi 9-8 in penalties after a barren normal time draw to win the Girls title.

However, after the painful exit, Rays of Grace logged in a complaint to the organizers accusing Tinuma of fielding over-aged players.

The Buganda region championship started on Friday and climax this Sunday with the winner taking Shs1.5m while the runners up have Shs1m at stake. North East and Eastern region will hold their on August 9-11 in Soroti while Northern and West Nile region will hold theirs on August 16-18 in Lira.

Kitara and Western region will hold their qualifiers on August 28-30 in Masindi before the national quarter and semi finals are played in Kampala on September 4-6.

The finals will be held in Kampala on September 7 where the national winners have Shs7m at the stake while the runners up will take Shs5m.

Airtel-Uganda will also give away football equipment to five schools from Buganda region as well as accolades for individual best performers.
