Cameroonian referee Joseph Marie was one of the referees and judges that officiated at this year’s Uganda Boxing Federation (UBF) Novice championship at Kira road playgrounds in Kamwokya.
Marie was in charge of Elite 60kgs bout on day three as Shafik Walugembe from Sakku boxing club beat Hassan Byansi of Luwero boxing club.
The Cameroonian is among the 20 referees and judges undergoing an AIBA course that started last Thursday going for a week.
Uganda boxing federation (UBF) Competitions manager Michelle Nakkazi said that four of the participants are women.
“They wrote formal exams last Thursday before starting practicals the next day,” she noted.
The participants who have Zoltan Szalma from Hungary and Braham Mohammed from Tunisia as their course facilitators are doing their practical at the ongoing national novice championship under the supervision of the two AIBA officials.
The first ever AIBA referees and judges course held in the country comes weeks after the coaches AIBA Star one coaching course which also took place at the Kati Kati restaurant, Lugogo with 25 Ugandan coaches taking part.
