Jinja Circuit Final

Betway Kobs 28-19 Stanbic Black Pirates

Betway Kobs  put one hand on the 2019 Roke Telkom Rugby Sevens Series title after winning the Jinja circuit on Saturday with a 28-19 win over Stanbic Black Pirates at Dam Waters grounds in Jinja.

Pirates crossed the whitewash first but Kobs’ Adrian Kasito leveled matters. Okeny later slotted home from the left flank before Pius Ogena scored Kobs third try to earn his side a 21-07 lead by half time.

In the second half, Pirates who won last year’s outing came back through skipper Ivan Magomu try and conversion to bridge the gap to seven points.

But Kasito once again slotted home just after Pirates’ Timothy Kisiga picked a knock to compound a bad outing for the national title holders.

It was the fifth meeting between the two teams in this year’s 7s previous finals with Kobs winning four times whilst Pirates winning thrice. MRI Rams for the first time this season finished in the podium after a 19-15 win against Jinja Hippos during the third and fourth placement clash.

The Jinja circuit was hosted by Jinja Hippos and was the second last event of this year’s series. The last circuit will be hosted by Kobs on 24th August 2019 at Legends.

Kobs now with 132 points are six points clear of second placed Pirates at the summit. Betway Kobs need a minimum of 16 points from a possible 22 to win the title and this will come with at least a top three finish in the last circuit.
