Travis Mutyaba scored twice as Uganda U-15 side beat Tanzania 2-0 on Monday in a highly contested group B game of the ongoing CECAFA U15 championship at Asmara International Stadium in Eritrea.
The midfielder slotted home a 25-yard free kick after just 27 minutes following a foul on Abbas Kyeyune. Mutyaba then completed his brace when he finished off a through ball by substitute Patrick Ouke late in the game.
Tanzania had their threatening moments in the game but Peter Gubya, who was selected ahead of Daniel Mukisa in goal, made fine saves to give Uganda a clean sheet with the help of Captain Vincent Mulema, Caros Kaddu and Peter Gaya in the back line.
“I am happy we have won our second game and against strong opponents like Tanzania. The boys played well according to instructions and the result is encouraging,” said Uganda interim Coach Jackson Magera, who made two changes from the opening game lineup that beat Ethiopia 3-0.
He brought on Gubya for Mukisa in goal whilst Kalisa Shungai replaced Leonard Kasanya in the middle forcing Mutyaba to switch on the left flank.
In the second half, Patrick Muliika gave way to Ouke while Mutyaba was replaced by Abdul Nsereko. Uganda now leads the group with maximum 6 points from two games and will play South Sudan on Friday in their next game.
