Caddies will exchange players’ bags for clubs and take on the course to put in practice the insightful advice and moral support they always extend to their respective players.
About 90 Caddies will tee off the second edition of the Uganda Golf Club (UGC) Ladies Open which was launched on Monday by the club’s Lady Captain Anne Abeja alongside sponsors’ representatives.
This year’s championship sponsored by Tusker Malt Lager, Uganda Communications Commission (UCC) and NTV is slated for this Friday and Saturday at the Uganda gold club, Kitante.
The Caddies will play in their own tournament –an initiative introduced by the organizers last year to give them an opportunity to test their golf playing skills.
The caddies’ prize giving ceremony will be held on Friday and top performers have many prizes at stake including shopping vouchers.
According to Abeja, about 230 players are expected to take part in the much anticipated two-day event. “We expect more participation after the success of last year’s edition,” she said.
Tusker Malt’s Kelvin Gumisiriza revealed that they are always glad to be part of UGC activities and another year of sponsorship speaks it all.
Gofan Safaris and Travel agency also joined the list of event sponsors and Director Joshua Rukundo believes that partnering with such events will promote golf tourism.
The men subsidiary event will be played on Saturday while the ladies will play on both Friday and Saturday.
The winners will be crowned on Saturday at a grand gala dinner having Janzi Band live music. The other sponsors of the event include; Case Hospital, Life Care Wellness Spa, Expresso and Wendy Wines and Spirits.
Irene Nakalembe is the defending champion of this event after bagging 152 gross at the inaugural meet last year while Peace Kabasweka came second with 159 gross.
