Busoga United FC unveiled new 14 players that have joined the team for the 2019-20 season that kicks off this Thursday. Among the new signings include former Bright Stars goalkeeper Benson Wagima, who was voted Stanbic Uganda Cup best goalkeeper.
Former Mbarara City’s Ali Kimera and Rogers Omedwa from Agape SS are the other goal keepers acquired.
The Jinja-based club, renamed to Busoga United from Kirinya Jinja SS recently, has promoted two youngsters Vincent Zziwa and Lawrence Tezikya from the junior team that finished second in the 2019 Copa Cola championships and also bronze in the East Africa games in Arusha, Tanzania this month.
“These players will help us achieve our goals for this season. We have brought in some experienced players to help the younger ones develop and our main target is to finish inside the top five,” head coach Abbey Bogere Kikomeko noted with confidence.
Joel Madondo, who emerged the club’s best striker last season, Isaac Isinde, Anthony Mayanja, Douglas Muganga and Isma Kawawulo has also extended their contracts at the club. The club’s president Diana Nyago believes the targets set for the technical team are realistic and achievable.
“We may not win the league title this but we want to finish in a respectable position. This is a work in progress that will yield results in the near future. We shall be patient but still we urge everyone to put effort for us to achieve the set goals,” Nyago noted. Busoga United finished 9th with 41 points last season.
