Ahead of the tie, KCCA FC Manager Mike Mutebi believes his young squad will be able to defend the title. “These young boys have been developed as winners and they have the winning mentality. The league will be competitive but I think we have prepared well t
o defend our title,” noted Mutebi, whose side lost the preseason Pilsner Super Cup title rivals Vipers SC last Sunday.
Whereas Wakiso Giants are new in the league, head coach Kefa Kisala is not new at this level having previously managed competitive premier league sides like Express, URA and BUL FC. Again, the side that earned promotion with only one loss has acquired quality and experienced players as well exciting young players to look out for.
“We are building a team and we are not going to play under pressure. We have to ensure safety to stay in the league but against we must finish in a respectable position. We have a squad that can compete with any team,” noted Kisala, who replaced Ibrahim Kirya after last season. The two sides have met thrice in competitive fixtures with KCCA coming out winners on all occasions.
The latest clash was in the 2019 Pilsner Super 8 tournament semi finals where the Lugogo side won 2-0 in Wakiso with goals from teenagers Allan Okello and Sadat Anaku.
Kisala was a 3-2 winner against KCCA the last time the two managers met while he was still at Express during the last season league first round.
KCCA beat Tooro United at home 2-1 in last season opening fixture as Allan Okello scored the first goal of the season in the 8th minute.
