Optimistic Hosts field most golfers in Uganda Open

Uganda will bank on the numbers at the ongoing 2019 Castle Lite Uganda Open Golf Tournament that started on Thursday till this Saturday at the Lake Victoria Serena golf course.

It is the first time the championship is played at this course and Uganda has fielded the most number of golfers in this 78th edition which is also the 69th Ladies Open.

Over 50 Uganda lady golfers are taking part followed by Kenya. Uganda’s potential podium finishers include; Martha Babirye, Irene Nakelembe, Gloria Mbagutta, Eva Magula and Peace Kabasweka.

Last year, Uganda had two lady golfers finish at the podium. Uganda Golf Club (UGC) star Martha Babirye finished overall second with a gross of 231 while Entebbe Club’s Irene Nakalembe was overall third with a gross of 233.

Uganda’s Gloria Mbaguta finished fifth with a gross of 236. The trio has been in top form in the domestic competitions this year.

Tanzania is also banking on Neema Olomi (2018 winner) and Angel Howard Eaton (2017 winner) whileNigeria Ladies Golf Association (NLGA) President – Eranem Ekwueme will be contented with any respectable finish by their only three female golfers at the event.

Malawi, Zimbabwe, Sweden, USA are among other nations with representatives at this year’s event.

The condition of play is Medal.
