11 – 14 September: Professionals Open

After the conclusion of the Ladies Open, the second event of the 2019 Castle Lite Uganda Open Golf Tournament is the Amateurs Open which tipped off this Wednesday till Saturday at the Lake Victoria Serena Golf Resort and Spa, Kigo.

The four-day event is the main do in the Uganda Open activity calendar and over 260 golfers confirmed to partake in this year’s showpiece.

The 72-stroke play event was officially teed-off on Tuesday by sponsors’ representatives, Uganda Golf Union President Innocent Kihika and Lake Victoria Serena Golf Director – Theodor VanRooyen.

Defending champion Ronald Otile, also 2015 and 2016 winner is hot favorite to retain the title. US based Otile and handicap 2 perfected his shots on Tuesday at the Serena course during the final practice round.

“I am very ready for the Amateur Open. I am well prepared for this and look forward to retaining the title,” noted Otile, who won the previous event at Entebbe Club with a gross of Gross 285 (67, 73, 71, and 70). “This host venue this time is very windy with water hazards and challenging greens,” he confessed.

Last year’s runners up Herman Mutebi turned professional but this does not give Otile room for complacency.

The Serena amateur event will also double as a world amateur ranking event and it is happening in Uganda for the first time.

On Wednesday afternoon, fun games will be played between active golfers (2) and an individual who will be holding the club for the first time.

The Uganda Open is sponsored by Nile Breweries Limited through the Castle Lite flagship brand. Uganda Tourism Board (UTB), Liquid Telecom, Pepsi, Britam, Absa, Isuzu and NTV are the other sponsors.
