2019 Castle Lite Uganda Open Golf Tournament

August 29 – 14th September

4 – 7 September: Amateurs Open

10 September – Pro-Am

11 – 14 September: Professionals Open

Defending Champion Ronald Otile endured a false start in his title defense as this year’s Castle Lite Uganda Open golf tournament Amateurs category got underway on Wednesday till Saturday at the Lake Victoria Serena Golf Resort and Spa, Kigo.

The US based, handicap 2 Tooro Golf Club star managed a gross of 82 after returning 39 in the first 9 holes to finish outside the top 10.

The 2015 and 2016 champion bagged a total gross of 285 to claim the title last year albeit a false start to the 72-stroke play competition.

He had to wait till the third day of the competition to claim the top position before sealing the title on day four. In the opening day earlier, Tanzanian star Peter Mwangi Rimu of Thika Sports Club was topping the leader board with a gross of 71.

Kenya Railway Golf Club star Samuel Cheje Njoroge emerged second with a gross of 73. Ugandan star Makokha was third with a gross of 74 while host club Captain Moses Matsiko managed a gross of 81.

State Minister for Karamajo Affairs John Byabagambi is also part of the competition and he returned a gross of 97.

He emerged the best senior amateur golfer (gross category) last year off a total of 384 (87, 89, 92 and 72) after 72 holes. Uganda Open Tournament Director John Katto returned a gross of 103 off 18 holes.

Golf enthusiast Mac Stevenson donated gloves, balls and towels to the top 10 juniors. He also paid $1,000 as their entry fee for the Amateurs Open as a fulfillment of a pledge he made earlier on.

The Uganda Open golf tournament is sponsored by Nile Breweries Limited through the Castle Lite flagship brand. Uganda Tourism Board (UTB), Liquid Telecom, Pepsi, Britam, Absa, Isuzu and NTV are the other sponsors.
