Hima Cement Heathens on Saturday received new training equipment and match day kits from their sponsors Hima Cement ahead of the new rugby season. The sponsorship boost was announced during the Kyadondo Rugby Club 20-year anniversary celebrations held at the club on the same day.
Kyadondo is home to Heathens, Buffaloes and other junior sides. The kit extended by Hima Cement has jerseys, boots, protective gear, training equipment among others. The one-year sponsorship from Hima Cement is worth Shs100m and will also cater for team allowances, match day and administrative expenses.
Heathens Coach Muhammed Athiyu believes that Hima Cement package is handy to his side as they seek to perform better in the forthcoming Uganda Cup and National Rugby Premiership.
“During the Rugby 7s series, we did not have enough players who are exposed to Rugby 7s like other clubs and that affected us. However, with Uganda Cup (15s), we hope for the best and we shall, as always, take each game as a final,” Athiyu noted ahead of the Uganda Cup kick off next month.
Kyadondo Rugby Club Chairman – David Mutaka, revealed that the club has helped to bring up new generations of rugby players most of whom get into the Hima Cement Heathens senior side.
“This place has also hosted various national matches and Uganda Rugby Cranes team has won most of its games here. We also have a vibrant night life outside rugby,” Mutaka explained.
To mark the anniversary, veteran players from Legends rugby club and Kyadondo battled early in the day before active players from both clubs crowned the event.
