University football league
Bugema 1-2 Kyambogo (Agg 3-1)
UCU vs Busitema, Mukono (Agg 5-1)
Scintillating Bugema University stunned last year’s Pepsi University football league Kyambogo University to progress to the semi finals for the second consecutive season in their third year of participation.
Carrying a 2-0 advantage from the first leg, the Nyanzi Medhi’s side stormed into an aggregate 3-0 lead just 10 minutes through Aldrine Kambale in the return leg played in Mukono on Wednesday morning.
The tie was earlier scheduled for afternoon (3pm) at Kyambogo, but due to security reasons, it was rescheduled to morning (11am) and the venue also changed. Chasing a second consecutive final, Kyambogo looked to have gained a lifeline when Uthman Bukenya leveled in the 38th minute before substitute Paul Nsamba gave them lead in the 78th minute.
However, what followed was frantic 12 minutes of action as Kyambogo pressed hard for the third. Bugema held on to rally on first leg advantage and win 3-2 on aggregate. It was the sweetest revenge for Bugema who were dumped out by Kyambogo at the semi finals last year on 3-0 aggregate.
Bugema joins Uganda martyrs University (UMU), St Lawrence University (SLAU). Uganda Christian University (UCU) are likely to join the trio at the semi final after their return leg against Busitema on Friday in Mukono. UCU carries a 5-1 advantage from the first leg in Bugema.
