Crown Beverages Limited (CBL) have announced a Shs30m sponsorship for the 9th edition of Pepsi Independence Golf Tournament due October 9 (Independence Day) at Palm valley golf and country club.

The luxurious 18-hole golf course adjacent to Akright Kakungulu Housing Estate on Entebbe Road first hosted the event in 2014. This 2019 edition is dedicated to breast cancer awareness and early detection.

“October being the breast Cancer awareness month and the month when Uganda commemorates 57th independence, CBL sought an opportunity for participants to both celebrate and embrace community support geared towards fighting the Cancer through golf sport,” Tracy Kakuru Otatina, the CBL Corporate Communications Manager told the media.

According to  David Sekitoleko, the Business development Consultant at Sheraton Hotel Kampala, the tournament under the theme: ‘Tee off against breast Cancer’ aims at fundraising for a Cancer machine to help in early detection of cancer to resolve the issue of sending patients abroad –which is expensive for an average Ugandan.

The one-day tournament will have both professional and amateurs at Shs100,000 registration fee.

“The number of players will be limited since it’s a nine course hole that will be played twice for better competition in the pros,” added Sekitoleko.

Stanbic Bank, Fireworks Advertising, Brainchild BCW, Mukwano Group, Sheraton Kampala Hotel, RI Distributors, and Uganda Breweries Limited, Clarkson Insurance and ICEA are the other co-sponsors of the tournament.
