The Uganda Cranes provisional squad for Total CHAN 2020 qualifiers Return leg against Burundi this coming Saturday at StarTimes stadium, Lugogo started training on Sunday at Lugogo.
The CHAN (local based players) team started non residential training under interim Cranes assistant coach Abdullah Mubiru as head coach Jonathan Mckinstry was in charge of the Cranes that were 1-0 away winners at Ethiopia in an international friendly on Sunday –courtesy of Emanuel Okwi first half goal off Joseph Ochaya cross from the left.
Mckinstry is expected to join the CHAN team this Monday along with Livingstone Mbabazi who assisted him during his first match in charge on Sunday.
The Onduparaka tactician was confirmed as the Cranes interim trainer. Allan Kayiwa and Kirizestom Ntambi who were the only local-based players in the squad to Ethiopia are part of the summoned CHAN squad while Vipers SC in-form teenager Karim Watambala also got the nod at the expense of experienced midfielders.
Uganda caries a huge 3-0 advantage from the first leg away in Bujumbura and only need to draw or lose by a less margin to make to qualify for the finals next year in Cameroon.
