Uganda boxing federation (UBF) President Moses Muhangi is happy with the progress of the second phase of Box HIV/Aids project.

The second phase is a continuation of the partnership that UBF signed with UNAIDS to fight HIV/Aids in the vulnerable boxing ghetto community. “We started the second phase on Monday and we register over 300 people every visit to a member club. These people get free HIV/Aids testing and counseling, referral for free medical facilities if testes positive as well as getting free condoms,” noted Muhangi as he opened the sensitization workshop organized by Busabala boxing club on Wednesday at the at College Inn hotel, Wandegeya.

“We do not force any of our boxers, coaches or administrators to any of the services. We convince them to test and do as advised by the partner bodies like the Aids Information Center,” he added.

UNAIDS offered $30000 to facilitate this second phase and three clubs have so far organized sensitization workshops for their members –starting with Kadiba boxing club on Monday in Mengo, Malalo boxing club in Lugala on Tuesday and Busabala boxing club on Wednesday.

Participants

The campaign continued on Thursday at Kiwatule boxing club (formerly Rise and Shine boxing club) before the week it concluded at Boggy boxing club in Kyebando on Friday.
