Musa Esenu scored his first ever career hat trick in the opening half as BUL FC beat Mbarara City 3-0 on Saturday in one of the StarTimes Uganda premier league fixtures of the day.
It was the first premier league game hosted at Kyabazinga stadium, Bugembe since 2017/18 season when Kirinya Jinja SS (Busoga United) last hosted from the stadium that has been refurbished by BUL FC as their new home ground from FUFA technical center, Njeru.
The striker, who joined this season from KCCA FC scored in the 26th, 34th and 45th minute respectively to become the fourth player to score a premier league hat trick this season after KCCA FC’s Mike Mutyaba against Onduparaka, Jamal Malish and Julius Malingumu of Onduparaka against Kyetume.
Esenu who has now scored five thrived on Robert Mukongotya’s hat trick of assists to prove his goal scoring potential.
The former Arua Garage, MUBS, Tooro United (Soana) and Vipers SC striker headed home the opener from Mukongotya corner before pouncing on the latter’s brilliant through passes to complete his hat trick.
The result aggravated Mbarara City’s woes under coach Paul Nkata, who has won just once in 7 games in charge since replacing Brian Ssenyondo as the Ankole Lions head coach.

Mbarara City are winless in the last six games with their last victory dating back on 1st October against Busoga United which was Nkata’s first match in charge.
They have lost four games while the other two have been goalless draws –sitting in the 13th position with 10 points from 12 games while BUL piled more pressure on table leaders Vipers SC as narrowed the gap top three points with a game more.
It was Sinan Mulabi second game of the season and has kept clean sheets.
The teenage form Kirinya Jinja SS goal keeper started in the BUL FC’s 2-0 win at Kyetume after being delayed by license.
In the same way, Mbarara City’s winless run on visit to Jinja sides continued whilst remaining winless on a live TV match.
BUL won 3-1 in the corresponding fixture last season and head coach Peter Onen believes the victory will come with great confidence to the team that had drawn 0-0 away to Onduparaka in the last game.
The Venoms lead the table with 30 points after 12 games. BUL visit SC Villa next game while Mbarara City host Onduparaka at Kakyeka stadium next Tuesday.
