Uganda’s Joshua Cheptegei is over the moon after setting a new 10km road marathon world record at the Valencia Marathon. With 26:38 time, Cheptegei broke earlier record set by Kenya’s Leonard Komon in 2010 by six seconds.
Cheptegei also holds the 15km road world record set last year in Netherlands. He is also the 2019 World Cross Country and 10km World Champion. In a tweet afte the milestone, Cheptegei said: “It’s a special moment to crown the year with yet another important achievement. What a year 2019 to end with a 10km #worldrecord Special credit to my family, #pacemakers And all my training partners What a moment for #Kapchorwa, #Uganda and the rest of the #World Thank you!” The man from Kapchorwa excelled at the IAAF world Championships in Doha Qatar when he beat 18 other men to the Men’s 10’000m accolade within 26:48:36. He had previously won the world cross country title in Aarhus and claimed diamond League 5000m accolade.
Cheptegei also broke the 15km road world record last year in Nijmegen-Netherlands when he set a new 41:05 record. This year alone, Cheptegei has won four international medals for Uganda.
