Hon. Charles Bakabulindi’s 14 -year tenure as the State minister for sports came to an end on Saturday after president Museveni replaced him with Ajuri County Member of Parliament Hon. Hamson Denis Obua in the latest cabinet reshuffle.
In the cabinet reshuffle confirmed on Saturday, the president in exercise of the powers vested in the president by articles 99(1), 108(2), 108a (1), 113(1) and 114(1) of the 1995 constitution of the republic of Uganda, Bakabulindi who has served diligently since 2005 when he was first appointed in the position, was the only causality in the ministry of Education and Sports that has four ministers led by the First Lady Hon. Janet Kataha Museveni.

Hon Chrysostom Muyingo and Rose Seninde –the state minister or higher and lower education respectively retained their positions. As the longest minister (in the position) Bakkabulindi has overseen a number of successes in Uganda sports as one of the top performing ministers under a limited budget whilst accused of his laid back approach.
The incoming Obua is a sports enthusiastic especially football and has always advocated for Uganda Cranes funding in Parliament. A close friend of FUFA President Eng. Moses Magogo, Obua served in the office of the Vice president before joining Parliament in 2006.
He is a graduate of Social work and administration but also attained an ordinary diploma in law.

A commissioner of Parliament, Obua, who was the key speaker on Magogo’s return party from a to-month suspension last week, has also been the chairman local organizing committee of the 2019 Eat Africa Parliament games hosted in Kampala.
He is expected to lead the advocacy for the NCS Act 1964 amendment and also agitate for sports facilities protection and establishment.
