There was no improvement for Uganda as the Uganda Sand Cranes settled for second place at the 2019 Copa Dar es Salaam championship concluded on this Boxing Day at the Coco beach in Dar es Salaam, Tanzania.

Uganda’s second victory at the championship as they beat Malawi 6-5 handed them Silver medals, thanks to Alex Emmanuel Wasswa’s hat trick together with other three goals from Peter Rwoch Somoka, Godfrey Lwesibawa and Douglas Muganga.

Malawi’s goals were by Isaac Kajamu (brace), Sandam Saidi, James Chikoka and Vanacio Malunga. Hosts Tanzania beat Burundi 6-3 to win the trophy for the third straight time.

The Sand Cranes scored 15 goals and conceded 13 with skipper and goalkeeper Meddie Kibirige having the best display for the side as well as Wasswa who was team top scorer with 5 goals. Sand Cranes Head Coach Salim Jamal Muwonge said that the Copa Dar es Salaam is a good test for the Sand Cranes since it the only engagement for his boys this year and that the 2019 edition was vital as Uganda prepares to host AFCON Beach Soccer 2020.
