Mbarara City Football Club became the first club to qualify to the round of 32 stage of the Stanbic Uganda Cup 46th edition.
The Ankole Lions saw off Eastern region league side Kakira United 2-1 on Monday in the round of 64 fixture at the Kakira play ground, Jinja. The Brian Ssenyondo’s side took the lead in the opening 20 minutes through midfielder Solomon Okwalinga’s powerful shot. A few moments later, striker Brian Aheebwa handed the premier league side a 2-0 halft time advantage.

The home side rallied back to find a consolation five minutes to play courtesy of Johnie Obonga’s goal. Action continued this Tuesday as defending champions Proline beat FUFA Big league side Katwe United 2-1 to start off title defense on a winning note at the StarTimes stadium, Lugogo.
Mustafa Mujjuzi and Kiwanuka Hakim scored the goals for Proline while Lubowa Micheal got Katwe United consolation. Played since 1971, the Stanbic Uganda Cup winners represent Uganda at the CAF Confederation Cup in the forthcoming season.
Last year’s champions were Proline FC who beat Bright Stars 5-4 in penalties after a 1-1 draw in normal time in the final at the Masaka recreational grounds.
