Mbarara City vs Police, Kakyeka
Mbarara City will play Police FC this Friday in their first second round game on return to the Kakyeka stadium after hosting from Bombo military barracks since the start of second round. FUFA Licensing committee cleared Kakyeka stadium to host Mbarara City FC’s StarTimes Uganda premier league games.
The stadium had been suspended due its poor state especially with the playing surface towards the end of the first round.
However, FUFA has advised that only one club should use Kakyeka to host games to keep the ground in shape. Mbarara was also advised to limit training on the field of play to maintain the status of the ground.
“The Secretariat has received a letter from FUFA indicating that Kakyeka Stadium has since met the minimum requirements to host Uganda Premier League games. Accordingly, all Mbarara City FC home matches will now be hosted at Kakyeka Stadium-Mbarara,” Uganda Premier League CEO Bernard Bampaire Bainamani noted in a statement.
The club also hosted opening first round games at Luzira Prison. The Brian Ssenyondo’s Mbarara City FC are eighth on the table with 26 points after 20 games.
Mbarara City have won twice and lost once (away) against Police in the four meetings, drawn once, scored five and conceding four in the fixture.
The Ankole Lions are also boosted by the coming of 9 Barrels as sponsors joining TopBet. Police who are not moved by the sudden change of hosting venue, according to head coach Abdullah Mubiru, welcome club’s leading goal scorer Ben Ocen (11 goals) back in the country after undergoing trials in India and he will be important as the visitors seek first victory in Kakyeka.
Mbarara does welcome back left back Jasper Aheebwa into the fold, after his compassionate leave following a week of personal sorrow in which he lost both daughter and dad.
