Express FC were knocked out of this season’s Stanbic Uganda Cup at the Round of 32 following a 4-3 penalty loss to Maroons on Wednesday at the Kavumba Recreation centre. Express skipper Dissan Galiwango equalised with a late penalty in added time to send the game to shootouts after a 3-3 normal time draw.
Galiwango and Baker Lukooya then later missed from the spot for Express while Daniel Shabena, Frank Ssenyondo and Mohammed Yiga netted. Steven Mukwala, Abraham Tusubira, Edgar Bwogi and David Ndihabwe converted for Maroons while Patrick Bayiga missed.
The Red Eagles were playing their second game under Coach Wasswa Bbosa after starting off with a 1-0 away win over Onduparaka last week in Arua in the StarTimes Uganda premier league.
Express took early lead through Frank Kalanda in the fifth minute before Maroons replied with Ndihabwe and Maxwell Okello goals as the Douglas Bamweyana side took first half lead.
Eric Kambale leveled for Express the second half with a beautiful free kick before Frank Ssenyondo rattled the crossbar. Maroons scored Maroons third before Galiwango forced the game into penalties with a late equalizer in the added minutes.
