In the run down to the 2019/20 StarTimes Uganda premier league season, Vipers SC have received injury boost ahead of their season defining home tie against reigning champions KCCA FC this Tuesday at the St Mary’s stadium, Kitende.
With nine games to go, Vipers sit at the summit with 49 points after 21 games, just five points adrift of second placed KCCA who came on top in the reverse fixture at the StarTimes stadium, Lugogo.
Having been unveiled in last August on a two-year deal from Morocco’s Raja Casablanca, Shaban Muhammad has not featured for the Venoms after going through knee surgery in November.
The striker is the third Vipers player to undergo similar surgery after skipper Halid Lwaliwa and his assistant Geoffrey Wasswa. Vipers SC Physiotherapist Mathias Kasagga revealed that the former Onduparaka and KCCA net buster is responding positively to the recovery routine and could be fit to play in a couple of weeks after undergoing special workouts at the club’s gym in Kitende.
“Shaban is now in the rehabilitation stage, his condition has continued to improve. He has responded well to the strength and conditioning programs and will hopefully play soon,” explained Kassagga.

Meanwhile, Farouk Musisi will certainly miss a series of games as he recovers from a knee injury that he suffered in the 1-0 triumph over Onduparaka. The first assessment of the injury indicated that a surgery was necessary but later scan tests proved otherwise that the left back didn’t have to undergo the knife.
In the same way, center backs Rashid Toha and Livingstone Mulondo will wait till next season after suffering nasty knee injuries. Toha featured once this season on his debut after joining from Onduparaka while the former Busoga United Mulondo has not featured after getting injured during a preseason tie against Proline in Kitende.
The three-time Uganda champions however are even much boosted by the return of defender Halid Lwaliwa, midfielders Karim Watambala and Siraje Ssentamu after shaking off their respective injuries.
The trio core members of the squad played in Friday’s friendly against Eron Academy that the Fred Kajoba side won 9-0 and will be available for selection against the close challengers KCCA tomorrow as the premier league returns from a week break.
