The 2020 Mukono Youth Football Championship has been postponed due to the Corona Virus pandemic in the Uganda.
The 2nd edition was scheduled to be played from 9th-10th, May at Bamusuuta Primary School play ground but due to Presidential directives which saw the lockdown extended for 21 days and expected to end on 5th May forced the organizers to call off the tournament.
Statement Reads,
“Due to unbearable circumstance caused by COVID-19 Pandemic and in compliance to the measures embraced by the government of Uganda to avedt it, the management of Raising Stars Talent Academy the organizers of Mukono Youth Football Championship has with regret decided to postpone the tournament”.
Organizers added they will continue to monitor the progress of the global pandemic and will follow the guidelines of Minister of Healthy and the presidential directives as well.
The first edition of the championship was held in 2017 and Bamusuuta Young Stars defeated Mukono Galacticos Soccer Academy 3-2 in penalty shoots to win the Inaugural tournament.
Bamusuuta Young Stars, Kick It Soccer Academy, Mukono Galacticos Soccer Academy, Ushers Soccer Academy and Raising Stars Talent Academy the organizer are the teams which participated.
Unlike the first edition where teams only competed in U15 Boys Football, 2020 championship will see teams compete in Boys and Girls under
Categories of U10 & U13 in football Tournament, also stage Medical camp, Blood Donation Camp, Sanitary Pads Donation, counseling and Guidance, and Tree Planting.
Ahead of this year’s edition team like Kick It Soccer Academy-Masulita, Emirates Rangers Soccer Academy, Naggalama Young Angels, Talent Sports Academy, Nongo Junior School Football Club, Nsambya Young Stars Academy, Bugwere Football Academy, KYDA Sports Academy, Happy Hour Junior School-Mukono, Young Squirrels Ndese, Mukono Galacticos Soccer Academy, Lead Africa Soccer Academy-Lugazi,
Yesu Akwagala Soccer Academy, The Lion Sports Academy-Ntungamo,
Raising Stars Talent Academy, Naguru Police Kids Soccer Academy-NPKSA Uganda received invitations and confirmed participation.
