New Dates:

FIFA U17 Women World Cup in India: 17th February 2021 – 7th March 2021.

FIFA U20 Women World Cup in Costa Rica and Panama: 20th January 2021 – 6th February 2021.

Federation of International Football Association ( FIFA) has, on Tuesday 12th, May 2020, announced the new dates for the Under-17 and Under-20 Women World Cups.

As per the new released dates, the U17 Women World Cup, which will be hosted in India, is set to run from 17th February to 7th March 2021.

The Junior Women World Cup (U17) was earlier scheduled to take place from 2nd to 21st November this year (2020), but the event has been pushed to next year due to the coronavirus pandemic.

In a statement released via the different social media platforms of the association, the postponement has been confirmed.

“The junior women’s World Cup was earlier scheduled for a start from November 2-21 across five venues in India. India will now host the 2020 edition from February 17 till March 7, 2021,” part of the statement read.

“Following today’s announcement by FIFA, the AIFF and LOC are pleased with the confirmation of the new dates for FIFA U-17 Women’s World Cup India 2020, which will now be held between 17 February and 7 March 2021,” reads another statement from LOC.

“The dates were confirmed after taking into account the time needed to complete the UEFA, CONCACAF, CAF, OFC, and CONMEBOL qualification tournaments, as well as the best possible conditions in the country to host a successful FIFA U-17 Women’s World Cup,” a statement from LOC added.

The U-17 Women World Cup will be played across five cities, that is, Navi Mumbai, Guwahati, Ahmedabad, Kolkata and Bhubaneswar next year (2021).

In line with the above announcement, the U20 Women’s World Cup, as per the new dates, that was set to be hosted by Costa Rica and Panama from August to September 2020, has been also rescheduled for January 20 to February 6, 2021.

The statement also confirms that there will be no change in the original eligibility criteria.

“The tournament will keep original eligibility criteria, that is, players born on or after 1st January 2003, and on or before 31st December 2005 will play the U17 Women World Cup,” reads the statement.

“For the sake of U20, only players born on or after 1st January 2000 and on or before 31st December 2004 will be eligible to play,” the statement further reads.

Uganda will battle Cameroon for a berth in the finals of the U17 World Cup, where Africa will represented by the three best performing teams on the continent.
