Cheptegei, Kiplimo Headline Uganda Team For World Half Marathon

Smarting from setting a new 5000m World Record in Monaco, Joshua Cheptegei has been named on the Uganda National team to boost the country’s onslaught for gold at the World Half Marathon Championships.

The World Athletics Half Marathon Championships Gdynia 2020, is set for October 17, 2020 in the Northern Polish Baltic Coast City, Poland.

Cheptegei  will lead the nine-team Ugandan squad and will be joined by recent Golden Spike 5000m champion and Meet Record holder Jacob Kiplimo, also 3000m Race winner at Rome Diamond League. Stephen Kissa, Abel Chebet and Moses Kibet sum up the men’s team.

The four-member women’s team will be spearheaded by Juliet Chekwel who will make her World Athletics Half Marathon Championships debut. She made her first major appearance in 2018 at the Cardiff Commonwealth Half Marathon after clocking 1:09:45 at the distance.

She will line up alongside Doreen Chesang, Doreen Chemutai and Rachael Zena Chebet, some of the country’s finest runners over the distance.

The team will be accompanied by Coach Benjamin Njia.
The Uganda Athletics Federation has named the country’s best possible team that carries a lot of hope on their individual shoulders and team top honours.

Uganda last participated at such a meet during the 2018 World Half Marathon in Valencia, Spain with the  men’s team finishing 5th and women 16th position overall.
