Gomba Lions Loose Players Ahead Of Masaza Cup
Share on FacebookShare on Twitter

Ahead of this year’s Masaza Cup Football Tournament, record winners Gomba Lions Ssaza Team have already lost a couple of players they had already signed to top tier and second tier league teams.

However, the Masaza Cup rules say that a player who plays in a top tier league (Uganda Premier League) or second tier league (FUFA Big League) will not feature in the tournament. Hence, Gomba will have to seek new recruits ahead of the campaign.

Goal keeper Derick Were has joined  Kyetume FC just like Ponsiano Ssegomjja and Nasser Lukwago.
Holding midfielder Hussein Senoga who recently returned to the side has joined Big League outfit Tooro United while Nasser Lukwago has joined SC Villa.

Defender Joseph Bright Vuni has joined UPDF FC.
Gomba were the busiest team in the Masaza Cup transfer window but the recent exits at the club has been a huge blow to their title defense ambitions. However, how they will respond to this situation will determine whether they will reignite their steam that had gathered earlier on.

The Masaza Cup Football Tournament is an annual competition between the clans/counties of Buganda Kingdom.
All the 18 Masaza (Counties) teams in Buganda Kingdom will once again vie for glory in this year’s outing. The date for kickoff will be communicated later this month or early in October.
The tournament will be played on group stage format with successful teams going past the preliminary round.
Bulemeezi is the defending champion of this 17-year old tournament.
