There has been uncertainty regarding the promotional playoffs of the FUFA Big League which determines the final 16th team to join the top tier league, Uganda Premier League.
However, FUFA first vice president Justus Mugisha on Saturday, September 26, 2020 while addressing the FUFA Super League Limited (FSLL) Annual General Meeting at Ridar Hotel in Kampala revealed that the playoffs will happen.
According to Mugisha, the playoffs will be held at FUFA Technical Center in Njeru, Jinja as proposed by the federation.
“We shall have the play-offs at the FUFA Technical Center, Njeru. The dates are yet to be confirmed by the FUFA Competitions department because as you are aware, we are still engaging the Government on how football can safely return” Mugisha said at the AGM.
The teams in the playoffs are; Kataka who will face Kitara, Kiboga Young who will face seeking returnees Ndejje University in the semi-final. The two winners among the above four will face in the final to determine the side to play in the 2020/21 Uganda Premier League season.
Malaba Youth Development Association (MYDA) and Uganda People’s Defence Forces (UPDF) already qualified for the top tier league after finishing among the top two in the Big League.
However, FUFA has extended the kick off date for the 2020-21 Uganda Premier League by a month. The season was initially slated to kick-off on 17th October 2020.
The federation has also extended the licensing process by a month.
