Ugandan female middle-distance runner Shida Leni finished third in the women’s 400m heat at the Nairobi event of the 2020 World Athletics Continental Tour (WACT) held on Saturday.
Leni managed to clock a race time of 52.76 (her personal best) to claim the final spot on the podium.
Leni has expressed delight in her recent achievement and despite being overjoyed by the Nairobi feet, she has remained grateful for emerging third on the track.
“Thanks to the Almighty Allah!” Leni noted via a social media missive adding that; “today I’m proud of running a sensational best of 52.76 this year.’
“I didn’t expect that I would compete but thanks to Almighty. Thanks to UAF (Uganda Athletics Federation), my manager, coaches and fans for praying for me. I love you all! The sky is the limit and the big one is yet to come,” Leni added.
Namibia’s Beatrice Masilingi was first with a winning time of 50.96.
Kenyan Mary Moora was second with a race time of 51.08.
The 2020 World Athletics Continental Tour is an annual series of elite track and field athletic competitions, recognised by World Athletics (formerly known as the IAAF).
The Tour forms the second tier of international one-day meetings after the Diamond League except in the 200m, 3000m steeplechase, discus, hammer and triple jump, where it forms the top-tier, these events having been removed from the Diamond League from 2020.
The series season was Inaugurated this year.
