Local football governing body Federation of Uganda Football Associations (FUFA) on Tuesday morning announced that the 2019/20 Uganda Cup season has been cancelled.

The tournament has been prematurely ended with no winner due to the tight COVID-19 restrictions on sports following its reinstation in September ever since it had been halted in March this year.

However, tournament headline sponsor Stanbic Bank has said that clubs will receive their prize money despite games not reaching completion.

“The prize money we committed, will be issued out. This prize money will go along way in supporting not only the teams but the players,” Daniel Ogong, Stanbic Bank Head of Marketing and Communication told media.
FUFA CEO Edgar Watson has lauded Stanbic for commiting to pay the prize money albeit tourney not reaching completion.

Edgar further said that going forward, they intend to intensify competitiveness and possibly broadcast all games on TV especially if fans are not allowed back into stadiums by the time the next tournament kicks off.

The Uganda Cup had reached to the Round of 16 and the Quarter Finals.

Prize Money for the cancelled 2019/20 season will be paid out as follows:
The 6 teams that qualified for the Quarter Finals will each receive UGX 6 million:
The six teams are; Proline FC, KCCA FC, Kyetume FC, Light SS FC, Kitara FC and Kataka FC.

The 6 teams that were knocked out at the Round of 16 will each receive UGX 3 million:
The six teams are; Kiboga Young FC, Dove FC, Maroons FC, UPDF FC, Tooro Utd FC and Free Stars FC
And the 4 teams that were yet to play their Round of 16 matches will share the prize money for their ties. Each will receive UGX 1.5 million:
The four teams are; URA vs Wakiso Giants and SC Villa vs Mbarara City.
