Uganda Premier League side Express FC on Wednesday evening announced the appointment of Daniel Kiwanuka as the new Goalkeeping coach ahead of the fast-approaching 2020/21 football season.
Kiwanuka, 45 joins the Red Eagles’ technical bench on a two-year deal as the side seeks to reclaim past glory.
According to the club website, Kiwanuka’s decision to join the Wankulukuku based side is based on the club’s rich history and new look future, plus his personal aspirations.
“Express FC is one of the historical clubs in Uganda but most importantly, am here because I want a new challenge, I’ve achieved everything there’s to win in the Ugandan football league hence the need to seek for a new challenge” Kiwanuka told the club website.
Kiwanuka will fill the void left by former goalkeeping coach and club legend Sam Kawalya who has stepped down from his role due to health concerns on the advise of doctors.
Kiwanuka now joins Wasswa Bossa’s technical bench and brings along invaluable experience having groomed several goalkeepers including Uganda Cranes goal minders Benjamin Ochan and Charles Lukwago.
During his prime days, Kiwanuka turned out for several league sides like Diary FC, UMEME FC, Simba FC and Maji FC but his coaching spells have seen him manage the U17 boys and girls and the U20 boys and girls national teams.
With the Uganda Premier League scheduled to kickoff on 20th November 2020, Express are hoping to win their seventh league title in the coming season.
