Ahead of the 2020/21 football season, Uganda Premier League side Police FC on Tuesday evening named midfielder Tony Mawejje as their Captain for the upcoming campaign.
Mawejje will be assisted by Dennis Rukundo, Joseph Sentume and Samuel Kayongo in that particular order.
29-year old Mawejje who joined the club this transfer window as a free agent has expressed delight in his new role at the team and has promised a good season ahead.
“I feel delighted being appointed team captain for this big club. I will give it my best as usual and together with my team mates, we promise good results to both fans and management,” Mawejje told the club media team.
However, to achieve their targets, Mawejje has cautioned his team mates to follow instructions of the technical team.
“We must keep focused and always do things as instructed by the coaches. I believe in their qualities and the preparations so far although it’s been a long break since the pandemic disorganized everything,” Mawejje said.
“It’s going to be fan playing again and I pray for God’s blessings in all our preparations,” Mawejje added.
Police Head Coach Abdallah Mubiru has heaped faith on Mawejje as the right man for the armband.
“Mawejje is an experienced player with commitment and great personality which no one can question. He commands respect from the team. His leadership skills and discipline make him advantageous,” Mubiru said.
The 2020/21 Uganda football season is anticipated to Kickoff on 20th November with Uganda Police in the mix for various events.
