Event: Elite T20 League Final
Fixture: Aziz Damani Scorpions vs. The Royal Varsani Bucks
Venue: Lugogo Cricket Oval
Time: 2p.m (Saturday, 31st October)
The inaugural Elite T20 League Cricket Tournament has reached its business end with Aziz Damani Scorpions taking on The Royal Varsani Bucks in today’s afternoon (2p.m) final at Lugogo Cricket Oval.
To reach the final, Scorpions and Bucks came atop Mamba Challengers in the two-round round robin event played by the three franchise teams over six days.
With the Friday fixtures getting washed away by open skies, Scorpions which is home to Cricket Cranes Captain Brian Masaba kept on boasting with a Net Run Rate (NRR) of 0.699 and eight points off four wins and two losses.
Bucks find themselves in the final having finished second in the round-robin action with an NRR of -0.455 and seven points off three wins, three losses and one draw. Mamba who sought for a miracle on Friday will curse the gods of rain after a down pour interrupted play on a day they hoped to upset odds and make it to the final.
Mamba failed to make it to the final after finishing last with an NRR of -0.179 and five points off two wins, four losses and one draw.
The final is a befitting clash to cap the event for in the event proper, both Scorpions and Bucks managed to pick up maximum points against each other and this fixture is always looked up to.
Both sides have a cocktail of senior players and newbies and it will be interesting to see how it rolls out today in Lugogo.
Uganda Cricket Association have offered Sh. 3,000,000 for the winning franchise and the player of the Series will take home Sh.500,000.
All players in the tournament will take home a stipend from Uganda Cricket as a daily allowance to each one of them.
The showpiece will help selectors pick players eligible to be on the plane for Uganda’s tour to Qatar in December.
