Ugandan pair of Denis Anguyo and Deo Akope are day one leaders of the Professionals event of the Tusker Malt Uganda Open Golf Championship 2020 that teed off on Thursday at Uganda Golf Club’s par-72 course in Kitante.

Anguyo and Akope both struck a gross score of 70 to share day one bragging rights of the professional tournament that marks its 15th staging in the championship this year.
Anguyo is in pursuit for his maiden championship whilst Akope is two-times winner having won the inaugural event in 2006 and also winning in 2014, making him the last Ugandan to win the event.

Three Ugandans Abraham Ainimani, Herman Deco Mutebi, Happy Robert are tied third with defending champion Muthiya Madalitso and two other players with a gross score of 71.
The Uganda Open is the fourth leg of the Safari Tour with the previous events having been played in Kenya.

Ugandan pair of Abbey Bagalana and Philip Kasozi who played at the Kenyan legs of the tour were joint 13th with a gross score of 73 while former Uganda Open champion Dismas Anyonyi Indiza finished joint 20th with a gross score 74.

Uganda Open pro kitty is Shs100m that is set to be split between 30 professional golfers who make the cut. The winner will take 22.5 % of the pro-kitty and the remainder of the players will share 77.5 % of the prize money in ascending order.
