Uganda senior men’s national basketball team, Silverbacks are now ranked 97th globally as per the recent FIBA (Federation of International Basketball Associations) rankings.
Silverbacks improved ranking comes after they picked two wins from their three games at the first window of the FIBA AfroBasket 2021 Qualifiers held last month in Alexandria, Egypt at the Kamal Shalaby Avenue.
Before the Egypt continental showpiece, Silverbacks were ranked at number 101 and now climb four places to join the two-figure club.
While in Egypt, Uganda beat Morocco (94-90) and Cape Verde (101-98) but lost to the hosts 96-77.
Silverbacks will return to action during the second and last window of the Qualifiers which tips off on February 19, 2021 at a yet to be confirmed venue.
In the second window, Silverbacks will be looking to qualify for the FIBA Afrobasket in Kigali, Rwanda next year and also improve on their global ranking.
Meanwhile, the USA is the best ranked globally, followed by Spain and Australia.
Nigeria is the best ranked team in Africa followed by Angola and Tunisia.
In Africa, Uganda is 15th overall, behind Senegal (4th), Ivory Coast, Egypt, Cameroon, Morocco, Mali, Central African Republic, DR Congo, Cape Verde, Rwanda and Mozambique respectively.
