Forward George Ssenkaba’s strike earned Express FC a 1 – 0 win over arch rivals S.C Villa on Saturday at the Muteesa II stadium Wankulukuku during matchday five of the 2020/21 Uganda Premier League (UPL) season.
After both teams fired blanks in the first half, Ssenkaaba cooly and calmly slotted home from the left wing leaving shot stopper Saidi Keni helpless immediately after restart.
The game saw both teams cancel each other out in either half with few chances to write home about. Forward Eric Kambale rattled the cross bar 18 minutes into the game while Kabonge Nicolas sent his freekick off mark just outside the 18 yard area.
After recess, only Ssenkaaba’s goal made the difference and Express Head coach Wasswa Bossa says the most important thing was earning a victory in the derby.
“The most important thing is that we earned all the three points in the derby. Our target remains trying to win silverware, this is now done, we look forward to the next games next year,” Bossa told the club website.
Goal scorer George Ssenkaaba emphasized that the team learnt from their mistakes in the past game (Vs Mbarara City).
“When we came back from Mbarara, we decided to iron out our mistakes, it wasn’t an easy game but I’m happy we picked up a win, it’s not all over, we shall go back and plan for the remaining games,” Ssenkasba said.
The win takes Express FC to 8 points after four games. The league will resume in February 2021 after CHAN.
