Forward George Ssenkaaba’s goal was the only difference as Express FC beat perennial rivals SC Villa 1 – 0 over the weekend at the Muteesa II Stadium Wankulukuku in one of matchday five fixtures of the 2020/21 Uganda Premier League (UPL) season.
Ssenkaaba’s effort was his first goal for Express since joining the Red Eagles from the newly promoted UPL side Kitara FC in the previous transfer window.
After earning himself a starting spot on the team sheet, Ssenkaaba who looked sharp and sleek last time out believes that the Villa display has somehow reenergized him.
“Like any forward, your confidence grows when you score and to score in the derby is beyond delightful,” Ssenkaaba told the club website.
“As a forward my target is to hit double figures. We shall go back to re strategize for the remaining games,” Ssenkaaba said adding that the Villa win was also due to team work.
Two impressive appearances away to Onduparaka on match day one and Bright Stars on match day two showed a starting berth was eminent for Ssenkaaba which came away to Mbarara City but despite the 1-1 draw, his runs on the left and winning aerial balls showed he would come good in the next game (the derby) which happened, scoring the lone goal of the game.
Senkaaba made his debut against Onduparaka. “Agogo” like he’s fondly known says the hard work is finally paying off.
Ssenkaaba also impressed on his first start for the club against Mbarara City.
Express FC has now scored five goals in the four games played with four of the goals scored by forwards, Frank Kalanda has notched two while Eric Kambale and George Senkaaba have one apiece. Winger Godfrey Lwesibawa scored the other.
The Red Eagles are now on eight points and remain unbeaten with the league set to return in February due to the 2021 CHAN tournament set to take place in January in Cameroon.
