The new Uganda Premier League season has had five matchdays albeit some clubs like Express FC who have managed four.
For the Red Eagles, the four match days have produced two draws and wins apiece conceding thrice something goalkeeping coach Daniel Kiwanuka has said is work in progress.
“First of all my goalkeepers have improved greatly from pre-season. We started with many new players so they needed to gel but I am happy the goalkeepers have stepped up, yes we’ve conceded thrice but we’ve improved in each game,” Kiwanuka told the club website.
Asked about how he goes about with player rotation in the department, Kiwanuka revealed that all the goalkeepers at the club are at the same level but experience is key.
“Experience is key which explains Mathias Muwanga starting but the other goalkeepers in Sadat Mugenyi, Denis Otim and Chrispus Kusiima know that they have to be ready because they can be called upon anytime,” Kiwanuka added.
Mathias Muwanga who kept his first clean sheet following the club’s 1 – 0 win over perennial rivals S.C Villa on 19th December will be tasked with maintaining as many clean sheets when the league resumes to avoid last season’s show which saw Wasswa Bossa’s charges leak in 38 goals.
