CAF Confederation Cup
First Round (Second Leg)
KCCA FC 3-1 AS Kigali – Agg (3-3)
@St Mary’s Stadium, Kitende
Uganda Premier League side KCCA FC are out of the CAF Confederation Cup despite winning 3-1 in the return leg fixture played on Wednesday at St Mary’s Stadium, Kitende.
AS Kigali advance to the next round of the competition on away goal rule following their 2-0 awarded victory they claimed in the first round after KCCA failed to raise 15 players (due to COVID-19 positive tests) required for a game to kick off as per CAF competition rules.
In the second round, forward Brian Aheebwa scored a hat trick for KCCA, his continental first but his efforts were not enough to sail his side to the next stage of the competition.
Aheebwa had bagged a first half brace before Muhadjiri Hakizimana pulled one back for the visitors just five minutes into the second half to ensure that KCCA required more two unanswered goals to make it to the next round.
In the 76th minute, Aheebwa completed his hat trick to give hosts a chance for a late absolution, an absolution that would never come.
Aheebwa had found the back of the net at stoppage time but the flag went up, just to cap KCCA’s painful story at the event.
