Ahead of the Uganda Volleyball Federation (UVF) Elective Congress set to take place on 31st January 2021 at UOC, Lugogo Sports Complex in Kampala, Godwin Ssennyondo who is vying for the position of General Secretary has revealed that he is supporting Sadik Nasiwu for presidency.
Ssennyondo worked with Nasiwu in his two terms between 2008-2016 and believes he (Nasiwu) is the right man to replace incumbent President Hadija Namanda.
“Having served with Sadik, I really feel it’s a timely call for him to return. He is already well placed at FIVB as Internal Auditor and has been recently appointed on CAVB finance commission. All these are opportunities we can tap from as a country to lobby for more projects. In addition, that will develop our game. In terms of sourcing sponsorship, he has been tested and by the end of his last term had secured a league sponsor in NSSF. So there is no doubt about his ability in that space,” Ssennyondo told our reporter.
Ssennyondo who served as UVF Technical Director between 2009 and 2013 then as First Vice President between 2014 to 2017 believes that it’s time to bounce back to the leadership of the federation.
“In the last four years I have kept around the game but I realised a couple of things were not going right. And some managers and coaches started to engage us to come back and help revive the game.”
“The game seemed to lack a direction and this includes both indoor and beach Volleyball. I don’t recall the last time we held a local beach Volleyball competition. Mass and Park Volleyball all have been dormant in the last 4 years. There clearly lacked adequate supervision of the different commissions by the executive,” Ssennyondo who is from Nkumba University Volleyball Club added.
