Strong minded personalities like goalkeeper Mathias Muwanga don’t come around often.
The Express FC first choice shot-stopper had a mixed end to 2020, on the pitch he ended the year with a clean sheet but then lost a baby, thankfully the wife made it but with all this happening at the tail end of December, one would think the first choice would struggle to bounce back but not a chance.
Muwanga who has played entire minutes of the club’s four Uganda Premier League games opened up to the club website about his stint so far this season at the Wankulukuku based side.
“It’s been a rollercoaster for me, just when I thought I’d ended the year well with a clean sheet (1-0 over SC Villa), I lost my baby soon after which was so sad thankfully my wife made it but I’ve managed to be strong all through, my club, teammates and family have helped me heal,” Muwanga told the club website.
“My target is to maintain the clean sheets run, the more clean sheets, the more wins we shall get as a team therefore helping us achieve our target of winning silverware at the end of the season.”
Muwanga has had his fair share of battling to win back the number one jersey, he missed the entire 2019/20 season first round with a back injury but bounced back managing at least three clean sheets in the selected games he played in.
The 2015/16 season also stands out while at Sadolin Paints when he was named the Uganda Premier League goalkeeper of the season after managing 16 clean sheets.
URA is Wasswa Bossa’s next hurdle in Feburary when the league resumes, the Red Eagles will be looking at ending the tax collectors’ unbeaten run which saw them manage three wins and two draws in five games.
