With just four weeks left for the second window of the Afrobasket Qualifiers to tipoff, Uganda national men’s senior basketball team, Silverbacks have intensified preparations (training) for the event.
The qualifier will be held at Monastir, a city on the central coast of Tunisia, in the Sahel area, running from 19th-21st February 2021.
Silverbacks local-based players who are currently training at Africa Bible University (ABU) in Lubowa have added more steam to their engines with the qualifier just around the corner.
“So far so good,” Silverbacks Coach Mandy Juruni said after one of the team’s recent drills adding that; “we’ve had most of the players coming for training sessions.”
“The turn up has been good and the players are fit. We are moving away from individual play and individual readiness to team concept,” Juruni added.
With the final traveling team yet to be named, Juruni believes that every player has a chance to make the cut urging that for a player to be summoned to the camp, he must be having some unique qualities.
The Monastir showpiece is the final bend to the event proper, the FIBA Afrobasket 2021 which is scheduled to be played between August 24 to September 5 in Kigali, Rwanda.
Silverbacks who are in Group E alongside Egypt, Morocco and Cape Verde won two of their three games in the first window of the qualifier but will need to finish among the top three in the group to make it to Kigali.
