Uganda national men’s senior basketball team, Silverbacks are currently preparing for the second window of the Afrobasket Qualifiers slated for 19th-21st February 2021 in Monastir, Tunisia.
The Monastir showpiece is the final bend to the event proper, the FIBA Afrobasket 2021 which is scheduled to be played between August 24 to September 5 in Kigali, Rwanda.
Silverbacks who are in Group E alongside Egypt, Morocco and Cape Verde won two of their three games in the first window of the qualifier but will need to finish among the top three in the group to make it to Kigali.
Silverbacks Head Coach George Galanopolous is confident that his side will make the cut to the Kigali showpiece but must first put in the work in Monastir.
“We are confident in our team but there is a lot of work to be done between now and the games,” Galanopolous said.
“We shall take our chances to qualify for Afrobasket. Each game will be difficult so we need to be ready,” Galanopolous noted adding that everyone is working hard ahead of the games.
Galanopolous also says that he expects a better performance in the second window with the ultimate target being qualifying for Afrobasket.
However, local based players are training under coach Mandy Juruni, Andrew Tendo and Brian Wathum at Africa Bible University in Lubkwa but Head Coach George Galanopolous and foreign based players will join the team in Monastir.
