Continental hockey governing body Africa Hockey Federation (AfHF) recently announced that the Northeast Africa Cup of Nations (ACN) Hockey Qualifier that was initially slated to take place between 1st – 8th March 2021 in Nairobi, Kenya has been cancelled.

The event was cancelled because only Kenya and Uganda confirmed participation hence they automatically qualify for ACN because only two teams per gender were meant to make the cut. Six nations were meant to honor the show piece, with all of them fielding both male and female teams.

Uganda Hockey provisional national sides (men and women) have been conducting training at the National Hockey Stadium in Lugogo and now insist that they will travel to Kenya for friendly matches albeit cancelation of the qualifier.

“Yes, the team will still travel for friendly matches,” men’s assistant coach Vincent Arnold Kasasa confirmed adding that; “we shall name the traveling team towards the end of February.”

18 players per gender will make it to the traveling squad. 25 male players and 24 female players are currently in a non residential camp ahead of the trip.

Tentative travel date is 26th February 2021 with the friendless anticipated to kick-off in the first week of March.
