Express FC will play their first league game of the year when they host Uganda Premier League champions Vipers SC on Tuesday 9th February 2021 at the Betway Muteesa II stadium Wankulukuku.
League football finally returns to Wankulukuku after a 46-day hiatus after local football was halted in November last year due to the CHAN tournament.
The Red Eagles are so far well within their quest of winning silverware this season having picked up eight points from four games before the league break.
However focus shifts to picking up maximum points against the visiting Venoms who have racked up four wins and two draws in the last seven meetings against Express FC and according to head coach Wasswa Bbosa, the target couldn’t have been more obvious.
“A lot of positive progress has happened during the break with the team. We have used the time to be sharper in front of goal and also understand each other better and just like I said in my matchday program notes, we respect Vipers but our target is to get maximum points,” Bbosa told the club website.
“We need to execute our game plan and that way we shall pull through,” Bbosa added.
Vipers come into the game after their 7 – 0 drubbing over struggling MYDA FC, Yunus Sentamu who notched a brace will be the main act that Express FC’s defence will have to contain.
Wasswa Bbosa’s charges know a win on Tuesday takes them as high as the second position.
Wasswa Bossa has a fully fit squad to pick from with no injury worries. Only left back Arthur Kiggundu faces a late fitness test.
No suspensions available as well for all the available players.
Arthur Kiggundu has played all minutes of Express four games but he will need a late fitness test for this one.
Express FC have picked up only one win in the last seven outings against Vipers SC, the Red Eagles have managed two draws while Vipers have picked up as many wins.
The Venoms have managed 13 goals in the last seven outings against Express FC.
Express FC’s last league win over Vipers SC came in 2016 at the now defunct Nakivubo War Memorial stadium, Tekwo Derrick scored the only goal of the game.
