Point guard Jimmy Enabu is all upbeat as Silverbacks (Uganda men’s national basketball team) gear up for the AfroBasket 2021 Qualifiers (second window) that will take place from February 18-21 in Monastir, Tunisia.
The Silverbacks Captain (Enabu) is one of the main men on the team and after overcoming an injury recently, the City Oilers skipper is revved up as Uganda embark on the sojourn to the final bend of the qualifiers.
“The training is good and I think I’m getting my groove back. I’m going step by step because you can’t focus on everything at once so the coaching staff is breaking everything down,” Enabu told FUBA media.
Enabu who hasn’t been training for over two weeks is happy to be back on court and can’t wait to get going.
“It feels good to be running up and about. My ankle is now stronger than ever before and I’m very sure by the time we play our first game it will be in good shape,” Enabu added.
Enabu also adds that the great bond between the players in camp is a good gesture of team work ahead of tipoff.
This will be the final window of the FIBA Afrobasket 2021 Qualifiers and the Silverbacks will be looking at booking a slot for the championship which will be held later this year in Kigali, Rwanda.
Uganda is drawn in Group E with Egypt, Morocco and Cape Verde and currently is second in the group topped by Egypt after the first qualifying window.
Silverbacks picked up two wins from the first window of the qualifier. They beat Morocco and Cape Verde but lost to hosts Egypt.
Silverbacks will need to finish among the top three in their group to make it to the Kigali showpiece.
Silverbacks will be handled by head coach George Galanopoulos, who will be assisted by Mandy Juruni.
