Express FC picked up their fourth home league (Uganda Premier League – UPL) win of the season after their 1 – 0 win over Busoga United on Friday, 5th March at the Betway Muteesa II stadium, Wankulukuku.

Forward Frank Kalanda who was making his first start since Senkaaba got injured scored from 12 yards in his second straight game in the 25th minute to ensure the maximum points.

The win takes Express FC back to the top of the log on 28 points, one ahead of second placed Vipers S.C. For Busoga, they remain third from bottom with just five points from 12 games.

The Red Eagles started on the back foot with Busoga controlling the game especially with creating chances, Issa Lumu was caught napping on a few occasions but Murushid Juuko was on hand to save the situation.

The moment of truth came in the 24th minute when Erick Kambale was tripped by Busoga United goalkeeper Omedwa Rogers leaving centre referee Shamila Nabadda with no option but to point to the spot, Frank Kalanda stepped up and converted his 4th of the season and his second in consecutive games. The action summed up the first period.

After recess, the visitors probed the Red Eagles but Mathias Muwanga was at hand to keep his 6th clean sheet of the season.

For Wasswa Bossa, a win is all that is required especially in a situation where games are coming in thick and fast.

“The games come in thick and fast and you can see it’s taking a toll on the players but I’m glad that the boys are responding. Today wasn’t any different but the most important thing is we got the three points. A league is a marathon so onto the next,” Bbosa told the club website.

Wasswa Bossa’s team is now unbeaten in 12 games with only 3 remaining to conclude the first round.
