Peng Weixue and Rose Azuba emerged overall winners in the men’s and women’s category respectively at Captain’s Prize Golf Tournament that came to a close on Saturday, 13th March 2021 at Uganda Golf Club (UGC), Kitante.
The two-in-one three-day tournament witnessed Peng Weixue return 60 nett to beat all the men in the main event while Azuba had 64 nett to emerge atop all the ladies who graced the do.
The overall winning pair was awarded with weekend-for-two vouchers to Trackers Safari Lodge.
The event was played in honor of UGC outgoing Captain Jackson Karyarugookwe. It attracted a record 230 players in the main event while 28 professionals (pros) played in the paid ranks category.
“Today is a special day in the life of this club. Thank you most sincerely for participating as players, sponsors and gallery,” UGC outgoing Captain Jackson Karyarugookwe said at the 19th hole before lauding Friends of Captain notably ‘Gud Life.’
In the men’s groups, Andrew Opio emerged Group A winner off 68 nett, Okello Ocero was Group B winner with 66 nett on count back while Fan Chen triumphed in Group C with 65 nett on count back.
In the ladies groups, Lydia Mutesi won Group A with 67 nett, Aidah Khamis topped Group B with 66 nett while Charity Opolot was victor in Group C with 66 nett.
The men’s senior category was won by Sam Byagagaire with 69 nett while Monica Ntege returned 71 nett to claim the senior ladies accolade.

Guest winners were Moses Muhwezi (men) with 56 nett while Martha Babirye was ladies guest winner with 72 nett. Babirye also claimed the ladies longest drive accolade with Paul Rukundo winning the men’s.
Nearest to the pin was won by Mark Namanya in the men’s category while Peace Kabasweka won the women’s category.
On a light note, Rebecca Nampamba who returned the least score of the day (94 nett) was ‘awarded’ with the ‘Piga Mingi’ prize to the amusement of herself and revelers alike.
In the pros category played on Thursday and Friday, Abbey Bagalana beat Becca Mwanja in sudden death playoffs to emerge victor in the final round.
After two rounds, Bagalana and Mwanja both emerged atop the leaderboard with 3-under par 141 but Bagalana won with a bogey on hole 12 during playoffs to claim the biggest share of the Eight Million Shillings pro kitty.
Other winners and podium finishers in the main event won trophies, appliances from Game Stores and weekend stay for two at Kampala Serena Hotel.
Seniors won trophies and Mifis from Smile telecom.
Side bets victors won mifis and a voucher each of 200k worth of fuel from Oryx Energy.
The tournament partners were; Crown Beverages (Pepsi), Johnnie Walker, Oryx Energy, Trackers Safari Lodge, Smile telecom and Case Hospital.
