Uganda men’s coach Vincent Arnold Kasasa Positive Ahead Of Match Day Two.
After a one-day break, the test matches between Kenya and Uganda national hockey sides (men and women) will puck drop again today, Saturday, 20th March 2022 at Sikh Union Club in Nairobi.
The FIH ratified campaign saw Kenya women beat their Ugandan counterparts 11-00 in the opening fixture on Thursday while the men’s teams settled for a 1-1 draw.
Kenya totally ‘stole the show’ in the ladies game but in the men’s encounter, it was an even affair with Robinson Omutekete giving the hosts a lead in the 34th minute before Thomas Opio leveled matters five minutes later.
Uganda men’s coach Vincent Arnold Kasasa is happy with his charges’ matchday one display and believes that they can come good when they again come against Kenya today.
“In the first game, we could have won it but settled for a draw. I am very proud of the team, they played very well, and we are coming back stronger,” Kasasa said ahead of today’s clash.
With the female team struggling to get equal to the task against Kenya, Kasasa believes that his side can make up for the excesses of their colleagues (women’s team).
“We are here to stop the Kenyans dominate in Hockey,” Kasasa admitted adding that; “I am looking forward to a win on Saturday.”
Vincent Arnold Kasasa adds that last time out, his side was well composed and had good composure and could go for maximum points today if they bank on those two aspects.
After Saturday games, teams will wind down the campaign on Sunday with each side having played three games.
Northeast AFCON Hockey Qualifiers Postponed
The test matches were organized and confirmed after the cancelation of the Northeast Africa Cup of Nations (ACN) Hockey Qualifiers that were scheduled to kick off early this month in Nairobi.
The Men and Women qualifiers were canceled after only the hosts and Uganda confirmed their participation to Africa Hockey Federation. Tanzania, Sudan, Burundi, Seychelles, and Egypt did not commit to attend. Kenya and Uganda automatically qualified for the event proper, Hockey Africa Cup of Nations (ACN) slated for January 2022.
